Lynda Hill: Life Is A Cabaret Old Chum, Come To The Cabaret: August's Leo New Moon

Whoever can conquer the street will one day conquer the state, for every form of power politics and any dictatorship-run state has its roots in the street. ~ Joseph Goebbels

The last time I saw Paris, her heart was warm and gay, I heard the laughter of her heart in every street cafe. ~ Oscar Hammerstein

I live in a one-way dead end street. ~ Bumper Sticker
Heaven is not built of country seats, but little queer suburban streets. ~ Christopher Morley

We learn about one another’s culture the same way we learn about sex: in the streets. ~ Ishmael Reed
Everything being a constant carnival, there is no carnival left. ~ Victor Hugo
You see someone on the street, and essentially what you notice about them is the flaw. ~ Diane Arbus

The Leo new Moon falls on August 6 in the United States and August 7 in Australia. It's a bit of a push-me pull-you type of new Moon as it trines Uranus but squares the Moon's nodes. There could be confusion over what's really going on, are we coming or going? Having fun or being stressed out? Firmly anchored in ourselves or a bit like a hot-air balloon. The trick is to have fun, share with others and keep dancing.
The Sabian Symbol for the new Moon is Leo 15: A Pageant Moving Along A Street Packed With People.
The ‘Street Pageant’ is seen ‘Moving Along a Street Packed With People’. People really enjoy a ‘Street Pageant’ or a carnival, they get together to celebrate their community, even if they aren’t directly involved in what’s being celebrated. Just watching the ‘Street Pageant’ can inspire fun, joy and even a sense of pride as people come out to watch and enjoy.

It may be a great achievement, or an anniversary event, that has spurred this ‘Street Pageant’. A large celebration can bring the community together and create some type of recognition for what has been accomplished. Most people will contribute to and support this display and share in the festivities. However, there will always be those who grumble about something; a lack of parking, too much noise or garbage being strewn about. Ignore the grumblers and go for it, you and others deserve the fun and the rewards.
You are either in the 'Pageant' or watching it—what does it feel like to you? Are you celebrating and enjoying the fun? Are you feeling a little out of your depth and at the mercy of the people around you? Is there disagreement over the values of what’s being celebrated? If things get out of hand in this situation, you may feel like you’re pressed in and can’t get out. There can be a feeling of being walled-in by people. Whatever is true put on a happy and expressive face and go out and enjoy what’s going on. If people let down their barriers, they will find it easier to relate to others they may have never seen or interacted with before. This can create a wonderful feeling of unity as people join in and come together as one.

Keywords: Demonstrations of joy. Spectacular shows of solidarity. Ticker-tape parades. Community celebrations of victory or faith. Food and drink stalls. Mardi gras and gay pride parades. Being a participant or an observer. Having a following. Gaiety and spectacle. Performers, musicians, magicians. Street stalls. Traffic management. The mob. Lots of people. Cul-de-sacs. Carnivals.

The Caution: Egocentric displays. Blowing one’s trumpet. Closing off some areas of life, overplaying others. Problems with neighbors or people. Displays with little warmth or genuine communal feelings. Feeling like sardines in a can. Noisy neighborhoods. Loud music that annoys. Disruptive behavior. Hooligans and louts. Looting. Lack of privacy and quiet. Garbage on the street. Barriers between people.
So, the trick seems to be to keep it light, mix it up with people and have fun.
The Karmic Condition (the degree before) of the new Moon is Leo 14: Cherub-Like, A Human Soul Whispers Into Every Receptive Ear, Seeking To Manifest. This Symbol can show messages coming through, being receptive to communications on many levels, and, also, can show the need to be discerning about what you listen to or pay attention to. Important or uplifting messages may be more helpful than listening to the negativity on the news, or gossip, or the droning of constant complaints you might be hearing. It can help to be alert for what spirit is trying to tell you, to tune into the more subtle energies that are around and within you. What are you feeding your mind with? What thoughts and words are passing from or to you?
Listening, really listening, to what's being said can be very revealing.
Keywords: New realizations and impulses. Seeking to have one’s voice heard. Messages from the other side. Reincarnation. Channeling information. Spirit descending, wishing to make itself known. Whispering. Passing on news and messages. Seeking embodiment. Trans-personal urges. Cherubs and spirits. Ears and hearing. The urge to accomplish something. Compassion. Manifesting intention.

The Caution: Confusing voices. Signs of instability or madness. Feeling that if one isn’t heard, they will miss out. A need to be noticed and acknowledged. Not feeling like one can speak up. Shouting and making a spectacle. Trying to convince others of something. Misleading statements.
The Quest degree (the degree after) the new Moon is Leo 16: Brilliant Sunshine Just After A Storm. This can show the relief that's in the air folowing an episode that may have mixed it up for you or for your loved ones or the world around you. It's the old 'can't have the rainbow without the rain' type of Symbol and a lovely example of Leo 'sunnyness'.
Keywords: The warmth of renewal. Things glistening with raindrops. Extremes. Recovery. Hallucinogenic drugs. Extreme weather, e.g. El Nino. Religious experiences. Brighter worlds. Optimistic feelings after hopes dashed. Relief and joy. The sun breaking through clouds. Overcoming crisis. The longing for rain to quench dryness. Floods of emotion. Negative ions bringing relief. Rainbows. Brilliant light that brings joy.

The Caution: Assuming that the storm will soon return. Being stuck in fear. Manic depression. Distorted viewpoints. Bouncing around from one emotion to another. Invoking arguments because of the reward of “making up”. Enjoyment of conflict. Plumbing problems. Refusing to move into the sunlight. Bi-polar behaviour. On-off behaviour.
The Sabian Symbol for Mercury is Cancer 28: An Indian Girl Introduces Her College Boyfriend To Her Assembled Tribe. This Symbol shows the opportunity, the need or even the necessity of bridging the gaps and spaces between yourself and others. Acceptance and love bring out the best in everyone and enables more acceptance and love.
What sets worlds in motion is the interplay of differences, their attractions and repulsions; life is plurality, death is uniformity. ~ Octavio Paz
It is by ‘Introducing’ new people, those that are outside our usual intimate circle, whether it be family, community (or tribe), or even our business world, that the potential of our lives is expanded. The motivation for this change, or challenge, to the status quo is love and the willingness to accept things that are normally foreign to us.
There may be all kinds of intellectual disputes or stubborn resistance to new people or ways of life, but these will be welcomed when the there is a motivation for acceptance. It is in both the giving and seeking of acceptance that we show a wise heart, even in the face of surface or social difficulties. If there are hurdles or barriers around you, persevere. These can, and will, evaporate with time as people’s ideas soften through becoming familiar with each other. With persistent love and openness, barriers can be overcome.

Keywords: Challenging or going against the status quo. Bringing in a new, more intellectual, element OR bringing in a more natural, earth-based attitude. Being the odd one out. Revealing strange, foreign situations or truths to others. Accepting people without judgment. Being welcoming and loving. Clans. Tribes.

The Caution: Deliberately upsetting the group. Unconventional or alternative behavior. Choosing friends or mates that could never fit in with one’s family, friends or social expectations. Using prejudice to keep people apart. Judging people by social standards. People misunderstanding each other. Hidden motives. Rebellion for the sake of being different. Ignoring tradition.
Venus is on Virgo 19: A Swimming Race. This can bring up issues to do with competition swimming your own race, endeavouring to beat records, issues of lifting your game, not looking sideways at your competition, but keeping in your own lane and going for the title, etc. It doesn't have to be cutthroat competitoin (although it can be), it can be more about wanting to improve your situation. Be wary of too much of a sense of competing with others as this can have people bumping into walls as they are trying to 'best' each other.
In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed. ~ Sid Caesar
Keywords: Looking sideways to see how others are coping with the strain of competition. Competing with one’s emotions. Capitalism. The striving for first place or greatness. Swimming, sports, competition. Wanting to be first at everything. Learning how fit one is. Concentrating on the goal. Medals and awards. Training and practice. Showing your abilities in front of others.

The Caution: Allowing the competitive spirit to dominate emotional sensitivity. Always going for “the win”. Trying to outdo each other. Being on the go all the time. Bad sportsmanship. Not knowing how to lose. Wanting always to conquer others. Always seeing others as competitors.
Mars is on Cancer 17: The Seed Grows Into Knowledge And Life.
The life urge to actualize one's birth potential. ~ Dane Rudhyar
We can see a thousand miracles around us every day. What is more supernatural than an egg yolk turning into a chicken? ~ Rutherford Platt
This was the degree of last month's new Moon. What was seeded then? What have you been planting, watering, fertilising? Notice how much talk there is now about GMO's, Monsanto and the other atrocities that are being foisted on us about our food supply, herbs and natural supplements. What is erupting? Although not necessarily a bad thing as it can push us to ask these questions in a real and meaningful way, it can also show a type of mutation that grows in weird (I typed wired so I'll put that in as well) way.
Keywords: Small and careful beginnings leading to a beautiful flowering. Seeding things. New ideas bringing fulfillment. Pregnancy, childbirth and growing up. The growth of knowledge. Embryonic cells. Giving and receiving lessons. The urge to grow. Germination. Reaching towards light. Fertilization. Nourishment. Tender care. Genetic engineering. Transmutations. Teachers and students. The tree of knowledge. The Kabbalah.

The Caution: Rushing and missing vital parts. Arrogance about how much one knows. Being afraid to start a project because of time constraints. Not giving small things the reverence they deserve. Grabbing the fast dollar. Things that get out of hand.
Jupiter (and the asteroid Pallas Athena) is on Cancer 10: A Large Diamond In The First Stages Of The Cutting Process. This speaks of something that may be taking quite some time to develop, or that needs careful treatment and care in order to blossom into the perfection it can be. Backing up the symbology of Mars on The Seed degree, this speaks of looking after small or new beginnings so they can flourish into a thing of beauty and value. Jupiter is smack opposite Pluto, so there can be a very strong desire or tendency to push one's ideas, beliefs, urges or to dominate another.
It can also show the realisation of where you've been pushed around or how you may do this to others. Beliefs can get overblown and egos a ltitle out of hand with this opposition. Wars of all shapes and sizes can emerge as people don't see eye-to-eye. The trick is to stick with your vision and not lose concentration as one blow with the 'cutting tool' could shatter the process, leaving you with a lump of clay in your hands rather than the beautiful diamond you seek.
This is the degree of Princess Diana's Sun and lately there's been a lot of talk about her with the birth of the new royal child. Diana was honed and perfected through her life and the day she died she had a diamond on her finger worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, along with diamond earrings, one of which was reported to be lost in the accident. She had her flaws and her beauty.
Keywords: Coming to terms with inner worth. Emerging perfection. Beauty that is still a bit “rough around the edges”. Naivety. Beauty that is within, even if it has flaws. Potential. Chopping and grinding away to get to the essential. Being almost, but not completely, perfect. Reserving judgment. Self-development courses. Knowing where to start or finish. Craftsmanship. Finding the best in everything.

The Caution: Leaving an important job unfinished. Seeing the flaws not the inherent beauty. Being afraid to take the first stab at something. Being overwhelmed by importance and value. Being overprotective or insecure. Not seeing the whole picture. Things unformed and incomplete. A “diamond in the rough”, someone lacking social polish.
Saturn is on Scorpio 6: A Gold Rush Tears Men Away From Their Native Soil. A travel warning has just been announced for the month of August by the U.S. State Department.
What and where is your 'gold rush'? Some are rearing to get away, travel, see the world and have big experiences in new areas, perhaps new parts of their lives, even without leaving home. Others may want to hunker down and not venture out to much as the energies of this last year or so have been rather wearing and some find themselves without much in the way of resources or impetus. For my part, I'm in southern Oregon, in gold rush territory.
Security is not the meaning of my life. Great opportunities are worth the risk. ~ Shirley Hufstedler
Keywords: Strong desires to move on. The longing and the search for the easy fulfillment of hopes and dreams. Leaving one’s native soil. Having a cause or mission to pursue. Leaving home, people, family. Dropping everything to chase a project. Pilgrimages. The search for riches. Immigration and migration. Listening to clues. The search for the Holy Grail. Pursuing a better life.

The Caution: Chasing the impossible dream. Losing everything. Being unrealistic or opportunistic. Not being content with what one’s got. The grass being greener elsewhere. Lusting after rewards that may be unreal or transitory. Risking what one has for what one could have. Wild goose chases.
Uranus is on Aries 13: A Bomb Which Failed To Explode Is Now Safely Hidden From Discovery. With recent events from train derailings to the travel warnings issued by the US government, one wonders if the bomb has/is/will or won't go off. The Symbol does not show whether it is really 'Safely Hidden From Discovery' - or just smothered in some way. Is there a bomb in your life that could go off? A secret perhaps? A thought or emotion that you may be suppressing? Is there something that almost got out of hand but you, or someone else, managed to defuse it?
Uranus is trining this new Moon and the lead up to it can see new solutions making themselves known as ideas pop and sometimes bristle. Listening to new ideas can be key to getting the best out of this transit. It's best to act after the new Moon, but it is also good to be observant of the energies that are pushing for growth that come with this trine from Uranus in the few days before it.
When the habitually even-tempered suddenly fly into a passion, that explosion is apt to be more impressive than the outburst of the most violent amongst us. ~ Margery Allingham
Keywords: Pressure valves. Getting away with something. Tantrums and frustration. Tempers that simmer. Explosive behavior. Bombs, explosions. Sudden and forceful events. Intelligence organizations, CIA, FBI, ASIO, etc. Valuable lessons of self-restraint. Relief from problems. Discharging nervous energy. Security checks. Last minute escapes.

The Caution: Suppressing stress or illness. Doing inappropriate things and thinking the secret safe. Repressing emotions. Undefined anger. Pressure cooker energy that needs to be released slowly. Explosions damaging more than expected. Activists. Deception behind one’s back. Clash of ideals. Terrorism.
Neptune is on Pisces 5: A Church Bazaar. With all that's going on with 'The Church' all around the world, Neptune seems to be dredging up scandals everywhere. In our own lives, Neptune on this Symbol can indicate that we do for others, help out, give to charity, support those in our community and generally do good works. The trick with Neptune here can be the issue of doing too much, taking on too much responsibility, not being aware of one's boundaries and generally giving one's self away. Being discerning about giving and receiving is part of the story here.
Sharing is sometimes more demanding than giving. ~ Mary Bateson
Keywords: Overcoming loneliness and alienation. Selling things. The issue of real worth. A lot of effort for small rewards. Small scale commercial bartering and interchange. The collection plate. Generosity and charitable community attitudes. Jars of jam and things handmade. Bric-a-brac. Bargains. Practical spirituality. Volunteers. People sharing the load. Charity work. Money raising. Garage or yard sales. Second hand clothes.

The Caution: Spiritual or social exclusivity. Giving things smaller worth than they deserve. Using people. Deception on the grounds of faith. Fussing about small details. Fighting over “position”. Issues of territory. Pushy people. Social boundaries that exclude some.
Pluto has for quite some time been on Capricorn 10: An Albatross Feeding From The Hand Of A Sailor. Pluto here asks what old situations, beliefs, superstitions, memories, relationships or whatever, are hanging around your neck, dragging you down or back. As with the sailor in The Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner, have you consigned yourself to continually drag that thing around with you? What would happen if you let it go?
For a bit of a laugh, and to help toss off that 'albatross', here's the albatross skit from Monty Python. Beware, as Pluto would have it, there's swearing.
Dangers bring fears, and fears more dangers bring. ~ Richard Baxter
Keywords: Feeding one’s higher nature with good nourishment. Banishing worries, so that one can fly ever higher. Overcoming superstitions or beliefs. Travelers who put themselves at risk in foreign lands or cultures. Talking to anybody anywhere. Sharing one’s bounty. Sailors, boats. Birds. Empathy and sympathy for others. Restoring trust and hope.

The Caution: Manipulating events or people with false nourishment. Having alternative motives for wanting to draw others close. Being afraid of strangers or strange situations. The loss of independence. Fear of intimacy.
The Moon's north node is on Scorpio 13: An Inventor Performs A Laboratory Experiment. It may be time to step outside that square to try a new 'experiment', take on something new perhaps. There's the old saying that if you continue to do the same thing day after day and are expecting a different result, well, that's the definition of being silly.
Keywords: Creating one’s vision. Thinking quickly and making momentary decisions. Being prepared to risk failure. Bringing different mixes of things and/or people together. Taking calculated risks to see what will happen. Seeing if things live up to expectations. Looking for answers. The “mad professor”. Mixing chemicals. Measuring and weighing. Going by one’s gut reactions. Inventions and experiments. Discovery. Laboratories. Research.

The Caution: Becoming obscured by pointless goals. Making things up. Being one-eyed and focused to the exclusion of all else. Not fully understanding the consequences of actions. Always taking risks. Not taking adequate cautions. Not keeping track of what you’re doing. Ignoring warning signs. Being a “mad professor”
Discovery is seeing what everyone else has seen and thinking what no one else has thought. ~ Albert von Szent-Gyorgi
Last but not least is Chiron - the Wounded Healer and The Stories We Tell Ourselves. It is on Pisces 13 and it is trining the Moon's north node on Scorpio 13 - the Inventor degree. This is a very nice aspect that can bring a healing in many ways, especially through the release of the past.
Chiron is on Pisces 13: A Sword, Used In Many Battles, Is Now In A Museum. This speaks about 'laying down one's sword', giving up the battle, knowing when to quit, dropping the angst or upset, especially around those things that are past their use-by date.
Keywords: Willpower. Martial arts. Putting aside thoughts of vengeance and revenge. Hanging up or laying down one’s ‘Sword’. Trophies of conquest that remind us of the past. History. Aging and maturing. Retirement. Remnants of battles. Souvenirs of the past. “Words as swords”. The Spear of Destiny. The Sword Excalibur. Disarming weapons. The search for truth and justice. Suits of armor. Peace at last. Sexual impotence.
The Caution: A lack of sensitivity. A pretense of one’s abilities. Giving up and “falling on one’s sword” from defeat. Grudges. Wanting to go into ‘Battle’ at the slightest excuse. Selfish agendas. Weapons of mass destruction or weapons of mass distraction? Pre-emptive strikes. Defensive behavior. Domestic violence
With all that's going on in the world, the major message at this Leo new Moon is to get out and party. Or, stay in and party. The main objective is to enjoy yourself and to enjoy others. It is the Street Pageant, after all...
