Diabetes Prevention - Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene

Several studies have found that people with diabetes often have low blood levels of antioxidants, such as vitamins E and C. Conversely, some research has found that high dietary intake or supplementation of antioxidants can improve various markers of glucose control.

RESEARCH: Researchers studied 81 men and 101 women who were close relatives of people with type 2 diabetes. Although the subjects were not diabetic, they were considered at increased risk of eventually developing diabetes. Their levels of antioxidants were assessed by dietary intake and blood levels of vitamin E and carotenoids.

RESULTS: In men, higher dietary intake of mixed carotenoids (alpha- and beta- carotene, and lycopene) was associated with lower fasting glucose levels. Their blood levels of beta-carotene were associated with a lower risk of insulin resistance, a prediabetic sign. In women, higher dietary vitamin E intake was associated with lower fasting blood glucose levels.

IMPLICATIONS: This study showed an association between higher intake of dietary vitamin E and carotenoids and normal glucose control in men. In women, only higher vitamin E intake was associated with normal glucose control.

This study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition under the title "Dietary intakes and plasma concentrations of carotenoids and tocopherols in relation to glucose metabolism in subjects at high risk of type 2 diabetes: the Botnia dietary study." and submitted by Ylonen K, Alfthan G, Groop L, et al.

On Alchemy

Alchemy is the raising of the vibrations.  The raising of specimen is the raising of vibrations.  Since everything that grows comes from a seed, the fruit must be contained in its seed.  Herbs, animals, minerals and metals grow from seed.  This is transmutation.  If we can help nature in her ultimate goal, that of bringing her products to perfection, then we are in harmony with her laws.  Then, we can affect changes in our physical sphere of sensation through the power of our minds.  Nature accepts artificial effort, or shortcuts, to bring about perfection.  In this way, hermetic philosophy, with its practical arcanum, repeats itself over and over again in the ancient axiom:  "As above, so below; as below, so above."  (Second Principle of Correspondence, The Kybalion, by the Three Initiates.)

Na 'Oli: The Concept Of Po - "Going Beyond The Horizon"

This lesson comes from the teachings of Kumu Hula Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu, a well known and innovative Hula master whose Halau is located in Oakland, California. This lesson is taught in mo'olelo, a sacred learning circle, and is usually accompanied to the beat of traditional Pahu drums. It is a soulful experience to be in his presence ... his Mana is extraordinary!

Q: What is Po?

A: Po is described as Light or Darkness. In the early times of Hawai'i, the people measured time on a lunar cycle. The Hawaiian day actually began at Midnight. Hence, the days of the week were named Po'akahi (Monday, or first day), Po'elua (Tuesday, or second day), and so on.

Q: What does Po beyond the horizon mean?

A: Po also means obscurity, or things not understood. Mythically, it was a time of the Divide, a time of the Gods. For some, it is a sacred period for ancestral connections.

Q: Where is Po?

A: Po is beyond the horizon. It is the last step to destiny. It is a tangled web of mystery no one can escape. It is the realm of the unconscious mind. A'o means Light, and that which belongs to the living. Po and A'o are just two sides of the same coin, a coin we all carry. Neither exists without the other ... and that's a fact!

Q: What does "beyond the horizon" mean?

A: It means the limits to one's own understanding. Many people think I push the boundaries, which also defines one's horizons. What do you think? I don't think so ... but it may be that I am on the other side of another person's boundaries. I would rather not limit myself to another's beliefs and fears.

Q: Where do Hawaiian spirits live?

A: Hawaiian spirits live in those of us that are Hawaiian. It is a mindset. It is the idea of being Hawaiian and identifying with things Hawaiian. It is the Hawaiian consciousness. It does not matter where we call Home ... Hawai'i is enough when it is in the heart ... and being conscious of that keeps the spirit of Hawai'i alive.

Q: If you're not in Hawai'i, how do you malama 'aina?

A: Malama 'aina refers to the caring for the ancestral lands. It means to tend and maintain its well-being. However, our ancestral grounds does not necessarily mean the ground, or Earth we walk on. It also means your Self, what we consider the living land. You can trace your ancestry through genealogical records and now, thanks to science, you can trace your lineage through your DNA. It now seems that in your bones lies the traces of your ancestors. You, the living Earth ... it is this 'Aina that you should care for most vigilantly because ... if you malama your 'aina, your 'Aina will take care of you.

Q: As a Hawaiian, where do you go after life?

A: I go to Po. With so many cultural beliefs, the obvious is overlooked. Hope, Faith and Trust are all factors of belief and it all takes consciousness. They seem to be the ideals of comfort, thoughtful ways to accept the inevitable. You can change your religious beliefs, but you cannot change who you are ... you are the descendant of your ancestors, and the ancestor of your descendants. Hawaiian spirits go to Po. When you sleep, your unconscious mind is allowed to venture with your ancestors. It is then that you are most capable of connecting with yourself. But, even then, we sometimes become afraid of what we dream, yet we are the creators of our dreams ... so why be afraid?

These are the obscurities of Po!

Daily Reaffirmations, by Don Miguel Ruiz

Today, Lord, help me to accept myself the way I am, without judgement. Help me to accept my mind the way that it is, with all my emotions, my hopes and dreams, and my unique pesonality. Help me to accept my body the way that it is, with all it's beauty and perfection.

Today, Lord, clean my mind of emotional poison and self-judgement, so that I can live in peace and love. Let the love for myself be so strong that I never reject myself or sabotage my happiness and personal freedom. Let me love and accept myself without judgement, because when I judge myself, I find myself guilty, and then need to punish myself.

With the power of self-love, let all my relationships be based on love and respect. Help me to let go of the need to tell others how to think or how to be. Let me accept the people I love just the way they are, without judgement, because when I judge them and blame them, I find them guilty, and want to punish them. Help me Lord, to love everything you create with no conditions, because when I reject your creation, I reject you.

Today Lord, help me to start my life over with the power of self-love. Help me to explore life, to take risks, and to love myself unconditionally. Let me open my heart to the love that is my birthright so that I can share my love wherever I go.

Amen.

Na 'Oli: The Aloha Spirit - Defined

A
Akahai e na Hawai’i
Kindness to be expressed with Tenderness

L
Lokahi a kulike
Unity to be expressed with Harmony

O
‘Olu’olu ka mana’o
Pleasant are your Thoughts

H
Ha’aha’a kou kulana
Humility to be expressed with Modesty

A
Ahonui a lanakila
Patience to be expressed with Perseverance

Aloha means the Breath ("alo") of Life ("ha").  It is such a cornerstone spiritual paradigm of the kanaka maoli that the State of Hawai'i codified the meaning of Aloha as a standard of conduct to be adhered to within the state!

In Hawai'i, you just don't talk Aloha ... it's all about hele ka 'olelo ... walking your talk.  Think about that one next time you flippantly say, "Aloha!," and think you're being Hawaiian in your slippahs and flower shirt with a flower tucked behind your ear.

Do you mean to exchange your breath of life with another?

Just how authentic are you?

Aloha pumehana e malama pono kakou!

On The Nature of Our Devotion To Isis Mighty Mother

Recently, we rededicated the Grand Temple of Isis Mighty Mother to reaffirm our commitment to Isis in performing the Great Work of bringing more Light into this dimension and thereby healing each other and the planet. During our ritual, we symbolically drank of Isis' milk from the sacred chalice. In the Golden Dawn tradition, it is the sweet milk of Mother Isis that nourishes our souls and cures us from all kinds of sickness in body, mind and spirit. Her milk flows out and becomes the Pathway of Souls, but it is also the Akashic vesture of their very existence. We at the Grand Temple of Isis Mighty Mother intimate this mystery in terms of carrying forth the esoteric Word, the Logos. Sweet is that milk of Truth that is ever available in its radiant wisdom to the poor orphan who seeks to become the legitimate son. Thus describes the spirit of initiation: we are reborn into One Family, as if to one father, one mother:

O Great and Bounteous Mother
Who dwells in the sky
And is called the Lake of Milk;
Be thou my mother,
As though thou hast given birth to me!

It is about the nature of our relationship with Mother Isis that I am reminded of Khalil Gibran's apt lesson called "Wisdom and I" in his book, The Way Of The Master (Citadel Press, 1958), at pages 77-79:

"In the silence of the night, Wisdom came into my chamber and stood by my bed. She gazed upon me like a loving mother, dried my tears, and said:

I have heard the cries of your soul, and have come here to comfort you. Open your heart to me and I shall fill it with light. Ask, and I shall show you the path of Truth.

I complied with her bidding, and asked:

Who am I, Wisdom, and how came I to this place of horrors? What are these mighty hopes, these mountains of  books, and these strange figures? What are these thoughts that come and go like a flock of doves? What are these words that we compose with desire and write down with joy? What are these powerful and joyous conclusions that embrace my soul and envelop my heart? Who are these eyes that stare at me, and pierce the very inmost recesses of my soul, and yet are oblivious of my grief? What are these voices that lament the passing of my days and chant the praises of my childhood? Who is this youth that toys with my desires and mocks my feelings, forgetting the deeds of yesterday, contenting himself with the littleness of today, and arming himself against the slow approach of tomorrow?

What is this dreadful world that moves me and to what unknown land?

What is this earth that opens wide her jaws to swallow our bodies and prepares an everlasting shelter for greed? Who is this Man who contents himself with the favors of Fortune and craves a kiss from the lips of Life while Death smites him in the face? Who is this Man who buys a moment of pleasure with a year of repentance and gives himself over to sleep, while dreams call to him? Who is this Man who swims on the waves of Ignorance toward the gulf of Darkness?

Tell me, Wisdom, what are all these things?

And Wisdom opened her lips and spoke:

You, Man, would see the world with the eyes of God, and would grasp the secrets of the hereafter by means of human thought. Such is the fruit of ignorance.

Go into the field, and see how the bee hovers over the sweet flowers and the eagle swoops down on its prey. Go into your neighbor's house and see the infant child bewitched by the firelight, while the mother is busied at her tasks. Be like the bee, and do not waste your spring days gazing on the doings of the eagle. Be like the child rejoicing at the firelight and let the mother be. All that you see was, and still is, yours.

The many books and strange figures and the lovely thoughts around you are ghosts of the spirits that have been before you. The words your lips utter are the links in the chain that binds you and your fellow man. The sorrowful and joyful conclusions are the seeds sown by the past in the field of your soul to be reaped by the future.

The youth that toys with your desires is he who will open the gate of your heart for Light to enter. The earth that opens wide her mouth to swallow man and his works is the redeemer of our souls from bondage to our bodies.

The world that moves with you is your heart, which is the world itself. And Man, whom you deem so small and ignorant, is God's messenger who has come to learn the joy of life through sorrow and gain knowledge from ignorance.

Thus spoke Wisdom, and laid a hand upon my burning brow, saying:

March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns or the sharp stones on Life's path."

The Golden Rule

HINDU:This is the sum of duty; do naught unto others which if done to thee would cause thee pain.
ZOROASTRIAN:That nature alone is good which refrains from doing unto another whatsoever is not good for itself.
TAOIST:Regard your neighbour's gain as your own gain, and your neighbour's loss as your own loss.
BUDDHIST:Hurt not others in ways that you would find hurtful.
CONFUCIAN:Do not unto others what you would not have them do unto you.
JAIN:In happiness and suffering, in joy and grief, we should regard all creatures as we regard our own self.
JEWISH:Whatever thou hatest thyself, that do not to another.
CHRISTIAN:All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.
ISLAMIC:No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself.
SIKH:As thou deemest thyself, so deem others.

Annie Besant On Spiritual Unity Through Veganism

Quoting Annie Besant's speech given at Manchester UK, October 18, 1897:

"When we recognize that unity of all living things, then at once arises the question -- how can we support this life of ours with least injury to the lives around us; how can we prevent our own life adding to the suffering of the world in which we live?

"We find amongst animals, as amongst men, power of feeling pleasure, power of feeling pain; we see them moved by love and by hate; we see them feeling terror and attraction; we recognize in them powers of sensation closely akin to our own, and while we transcend them immensely in intellect, yet, in mere passional characteristics our natures and the animals' are closely allied.  We know that when they feel terror, that terror means suffering.  We know that when a wound is inflicted, that wound means pain to them.  We know that threats bring to them suffering; they have a feeling of shrinking, of fear, of absence of friendly relations, and at once we begin to see that in our relations to the animal kingdom a duty arises which all thoughtful and compassionate minds should recognize -- the duty that because we are stronger in mind than the animals, we are or ought to be their guardians and helpers, not their tyrants and oppressors, and we have no right to cause them suffering and terror merely for the gratification of the palate, merely for an added luxury to our own lives ...

"[T]here is one other thought closely allied to this.  What of our duties to our fellow-men?  And here I appeal particularly to my own sex, because women are supposed to be rather the standard in the community of refinement, of gentleness, of compassion, of tenderness, of purity.  But no one can eat the flesh of a slaughtered animal without having used the hand of a man as slaughterer.  Suppose that we had to kill for ourselves the creatures whose bodies we would fain have upon our table, is there one woman in a hundred who would go to the slaughterhouse to slay the bullock, the calf, the sheep or the pig? . . . But if we could not do it, nor see it done; if we are so refined that we cannot allow close contact between ourselves and the butchers who furnish this food; if we feel that they are so coarsened by their trade that their very bodies are made repulsive by the constant contact of the blood with which they must be continually besmirched; if we recognize the physical coarseness which results inevitably from such contact, dare we call ourselves refined if we purchase our refinement by the brutalization of others, and demand that some should be brutal in order that we may eat the results of their brutality? We are not free from the brutalizing results of that trade simply because we take no direct part in it."

The Nature of The Way It Is ...

Who and what are you?
What is the nature of physical reality?
Are you your mind?
Are you your body?
Are you your thoughts?

Who and what are you?

Aloha kakou e komo mai!  I am talking about the nature of physical reality and ancient Hawaiian spirituality.

Who and what are you?

What you are is a vast energy.  The entire universe is a vast energy system.  You have this vehicle called a Body.  You have this biocomputer called your Mind.  You think thoughts.  You move through life.  The main emphasis of the Hawaiian tradition is changing your point of creation -- changing that point of creation from your mind to your Spirit.

When you make that change, you become the powerful, magical Creator of your existence ... You open yourself up to the endless, limitless possibilities that really exist, rather than limiting yourself ... being small ... being that which you are not.

The Universe is an absolutely safe place:  there are no sharp corners.  Yes, your body can be bent, folded and mutilated, but you are not your body!  What you are is this:  You are spiritual energy that is eternal, immortal and infinite.  You are uhane nui 'au ... Spirit Greatness.

As you learn to align yourself with that energy, anything -- absolutely anything -- becomes possible. All of your limitations, absolutely all of your limitations, originate in your mind.  All of our limitations are based on our filter system:  our beliefs; our agreements; our assumptions.  Change those and you change your experience.

In ancient Hawaiian spirituality, the kanaka maoli knew how powerful the Word was:  they knew that words were spiritual entities.  Originally, the Hawaiians spoke very few words because they knew that their words created their reality.

Your thoughts create:  whatever you focus your attention on, you get more of, e.g., focus your attention on fear, then you create more fear.  Focus your attention on love and on expansion, and you will create more love and expansion around you.

When I originally began my training, my path as a Healer, I was introduced to a fear-based Universe.  Something about the nature of that fear did not make sense to me.  Part of my invitation to complete my training as a healer was to go forth and explore the Universe's energies for myself.  And, as I explored the Universe, what I experienced beyond my fear was this energy of creation that was unconditionally loving, accepting and expansive.

The only answer the Universe has to any of our requests is Yes.

Problems arise because we send our requests out based on our filter system, rather than on Spirit.  So, as we begin to shift our allegiance -- as we begin to move our mind to our spirit, our lives change.  We become aware of the fact that we are magicians, that we can create anything we look to.

Absolutely anything is possible!

If you take a closer look and study about the Ascended Masters, Angels and Saints, and especially examine the lives of the Saints, you acquaint yourself with people that believe very strongly in Jesus and in the Catholic tradition, yet they were able to bi-locate; they were able to levitate, and they were able to perform tremendous healings, because of their tremendous connection with their Spirit.

There are three masteries:

ONE - Awareness;
TWO - Transformation, and
THREE - An Intent.

Awareness.   The more you deepen your awareness that what you are is a spiritual being ... that you are limitless, infinite, eternal and immortal ... the more you expand that awareness, the more incredible your life becomes.

Intent.   When your intent begins to shift your point of creation from your mind to your spirit and you use all the tools of Transformation to do that, it is amazing how different your life becomes.

Transformation.   Clouds just drift across the sky ... they neither resist, nor fight.  They just float.  They expand.  They contract.  They have very little substance if you should try to touch one.  And yet, clouds play an integral part in the ecology of this planet.

You are the energy in a relationship much like the clouds.  Without you, the Universe would be incomplete.  As you align yourself with that energy, time, money, health, relationships, love -- all these things -- you begin to realize that your Life is your Creation.

Your life is like a beautiful painting where you can change the colors, change the scenery ... change everything very much like an amusement park, or a multiplex theatre.  We get tickets, we can go on any of the rides or attend any of the shows.  We can see so many different stories.  The thing that we forget is that we can change what rides or shows are playing at any given time.  But, you are absolutely free.  You are limitless energy.  As you begin to let go of the thoughts that say otherwise, you will begin to experience freedom.  You will begin to embrace some of the ideas; explore with curiosity; play.

Allow for the possibility that you are not your thoughts, you are not your beliefs, you are not your agreements.  You are not your assumptions.  What you are is the energy that drives it all.

If you constantly broadcast fear, but expect to live a life free of fear, then you will be disappointed with your limitations.  You will be disappointed with the limitations you perceive.

But, as you begin to re-train your mind so that what you broadcast is that awareness ... that realization ... that you are that spiritual entity ... magic and miracles will occur.

Angelic Healing For You and Planet Earth

If you are reading this message, you have been called to do something extra-ordinary. I recognise special qualities in you. You have been selected and are invited to receive powerful positive spiritual energies, and to help circulate these around the world. The energies will help the planet. All who participate will be rewarded and be suitably blessed.

POSITIVE ENERGIES AND DIVINE HELP FOR YOU AND THE WORLD

We have asked everyone who has seen this blog previously to fill it with positive energies, for you and others to share. There are two simple steps – giving and receiving.

Firstly, look at the golden ball and the picture of the earth below. With your mind, ask that both the golden ball, and the whole earth, be filled with whatever qualities you would like to send, for the highest good of all people and the world. You can send love, healing, peace, patience, forgiveness, strength, courage, miracles, fun, joy, laughter – any qualities you like. What qualities would you most like to send to everyone and the world?

Simply ask that these be added, to everyone else's wishes, then look at the pictures and send your selected qualities and best wishes to everyone and the world. Pretend that just by looking at the world, and the golden ball, and by sending these good wishes, that everyone who sees this ball, and the world, will receive these qualities. Take a few moments to say a prayer for yourself, others, and the world. Prayers are powerful things!

Now look away for a second, to end your prayer and transmission.

It is now time for you to RECEIVE the energies. Look at the golden ball again for 30 seconds. Allow yourself to receive the transmission of prayers, best wishes and energies from everyone else. Enjoy this. You may receive this consciously, and feel the energies right away, or at an unconscious, soul level, but these will produce positive shifts in your life.

RECEIVE for 30 seconds ...

Thank you and you're welcome. You've just given and received positive energies for the world.
In a moment, we're going to ask you to make a wish....(keep reading – nearly there!)

We would also like to invite you to be part of a special meditation designed to bring powerful and beneficial higher energies to the earth, for the good of all. We have been asked by the angels to get 11,000 people to join in this meditation. Eleven is the number of transformation. The energies created by 11,000 people all sharing the meditation on the same day will be enormous, and will send a powerful wave of light around the planet, which will help everyone and everything upon the earth. All who participate will also receive the higher energies and blessings. The meditation takes place on April 7th – 07.04.11 Four plus seven makes 11, the number of transformation and magic. So 07.04.11 is 11 ; 11 - double eleven, a doubly auspicious day for this work.  (Can you imagine the power of 11,000 people all doing the same meditation on the same day?)

NOW …

Say a prayer, or make a wish.  That's it.  What could be more wonderful?

Forward this to at least 5-10 people (or more) – the angels will grant you one miracle for every person that you send this too, as thanks for helping to spread the divine energies – so the more people you send it to, the more you will be rewarded! Share these positive energies with your friends.  If you do, the angels promise you will be DOUBLY rewarded, as gratitude for your commitment and willingness to help the world.

Thank you for being a part of this movement to spread healing and positive energies to the world.
Namaste and bless you!
